HEVC is a proprietary format and is covered by a number of patents. Licensing is managed by MPEG LA; fees are charged to developers rather than to content producers and distributors. Be sure to review the latest license terms and requirements before making a decision on whether or not to use HEVC in your app or web site!
You almost certainly don't want to use this format, since it isn't supported in a meaningful way by any major browsers, and is quite obsolete. Files of this type should have the extension .mp4v, but sometimes are inaccurately labeled .mp4.
Return to the browser tab where you previously pasted the distribution domain name, enter a forward slash (/) after the distribution domain name, and then paste the path to the video that you copied earlier (for example, sample.mp4).
A video file container is, quite literally, a container that carries all the data pertaining to the video. This includes both the visual and the audio components, as well as some metadata, such as the time and place the video was taken, the equipment used to film, video SEO information, and the title of the video. In fact, when we talk about video file formats, we are mostly talking about containers (although this is not always the case). An example of a video file container you are likely familiar with is .mp4.
Powered by H.264/MPEG-4 video compression technology, the video format also lets you store hours of high-quality video using only a tiny amount of data. Additionally, the video format has both standard and high definition variations, and its latest variation, AVCHD 2.0, even supports three dimensional video.

At the moment (Spring 2018), the Media Commons iMacs and, more specifically, iMovie, do not support this iPhone format called HEVC. This only really applies to the Media Commons computers. If you have your own Mac, you can update iMovie to the latest version, and this will not be a problem. Media Commons will support this in the future.
From this point, move up to the top of the Handbrake window, and click on the green Start button to start your video converting. This may take some time, depending on how long your video is. There will be a progress bar at the bottom of the window that will start filling in. Wait for Handbrake to finish this process before doing anything else.Once the conversion is complete, you should now have a .mp4 version of your video. It will be saved in the same place that your original iPhone video was saved (i.e. If it was saved on the Desktop, the .mp4 will also be on the Desktop).
When the MP4 codecs are not compatible with the VLC media player, it will not play the video. So, try to upgrade the VLC Media Player to the latest version, which is equipped with all the codecs. Generally, users keep their VLC media player to auto-update.
Using this technology, Wave.video offers compressed video files using .h264 codec and .mp4 container with up to 1024p resolution, 24fps, and variable optimal bitrate for obtaining the best quality with a smaller file size. And all of that online!
iMovie 10.1.8 the latest version will import most MP4 clips. MP4 is just a wrapper and what's important is the audio encoding and video encoder. iMovie likes H-264 video and AAC audio. If your clip will open in Quicktime player it will usually import to iMovie with no issues. If it opens in Quicktime open the inspector window and you can see the specs of the clip including the video and audio encoders.
